Nobody told Kristin Davis she was going to be set up with Matthew Perry this way.
During the Monday, August 18, episode of iHeartRadio’s “Are You a Charlotte?” podcast, Davis, 60, recalled a moment in the ’90s when an attorney set her up with the former Friends star.
“He’s not my lawyer, but he’s a nice lawyer, and I’ve been set up with Matthew Perry,” Davis told guest Brian Van Holt. “And this is like ’98, ’99, ’97 maybe. I feel like it was between Melrose Place, which I did before [Sex and the] City, and it was at a house. It was a dinner party. It was so low-key.”
Davis’ big break came in 1995, when she was cast as the villainous Brooke Armstrong in the primetime soap opera Melrose Place. As for Perry, he helped launch the NBC sitcom Friends in September 1994.
Everything the ‘Friends’ Cast Has Said About the Death of Matthew Perry
“It’s a bunch of Hollywood people. I don’t even know who was there other than this lawyer and Matthew,” Davis continued when describing the dinner party. “Matthew’s lovely. He sits next to me. And he’s talking about how thrilled he is, how happy they are on the set at Friends, and he was doing a film with Salma Hayek. I was like, ‘Wow, he’s so happy.’”
“I had been around Melrose [Place],” Davis continued. “It wasn’t the happiest place in a way and it was like stressy. There were 15 series regulars. Everyone had the feeling they might get cut or whatever. So I was like, ‘Wow, that’s amazing, you’re so happy.’”

Ultimately, nothing romantic happened between Davis and Perry. (The Friends star died in October 2023 from the acute effects of ketamine. He was 54.)
During her latest podcast episode, the actress remembered weed being available at the dinner party after the meal was served.
“They start just passing the pot around and I’m like, ‘Ohhhh,’” she recalled. “I just get super paranoid and unhappy and time stops. It’s a horrible experience.”

Davis said she was one of the few Hollywood actors who avoided both drugs and alcohol. As a result, “I wasn’t really cool ever.”
“I was like, ‘I hope I can still succeed without doing all this stuff,’” she said. “And it was not clear in the ’90s if you could. It was a lot going on.”
As fans know, Davis later landed the role of Charlotte York in the HBO romantic comedy series Sex and the City in 1998. While the series ended in 2004, it helped launch movies and a spinoff series titled And Just Like That…
