Phil Donahue changed the shape of daytime television. Now, Marlo Thomas is paying tribute to her late husband of 44-years with a post of remembrance and a note of thanks online. Thanking friends and fans for all the "beautiful messages of love and support," Thomas wore that she appreciate all "the wonderful and generous way that you've let Phil and me share our life adventure with you over the years. As a man who spent his career loving his audiences, Phil got such a kick out of our cozy little community here, and I know he would be very touched by the heartwarming thoughts and memories you’ve been sharing." She did so while sharing "one of my favorite photos" of herself and Donahue from one of their many adventures, looking relaxed and happy riding a Vespa on vacation. Thomas ended her post with a final note to her followers and fans of Donahue: "I hope that you will continue to hold close those you cherish most, just as I was blessed to do with my beloved Phillip." The couple got married in 1980, and while they did not have any children together, Thomas served as a stepmother to Donahue's five children -- four sons, Michael, Kevin, Daniel and James; and one daughter, Mary Rose -- from his previous to Margaret Cooney. Thomas' tribute was one of many that flooded in following Donahue's death with friends, fans, and colleagues the world over paying homage to the legendary talk show host following his death at 88 years old over the weekend. Announced Monday morning on the Today show, "Donahue died Sunday night at home surrounded by his wife of 44 years, Marlo Thomas, his sister, his children, grandchildren, and his beloved golden retriever, Charlie. A radio journalist in the 1950s, Donahue pivoted to television and interviewed a slew of notable figures including President John F. Kennedy and Malcolm X, as noted by TMZ.
