Nobody Wants This' Justine Lupe Teases Season 2 Is 'New and Exciting'

Nobody Wants This star Justine Lupe is giving Us as much of a Nobody Wants This season 2 scoop as she possibly can share.

“It’s really fun,” Lupe, 36, exclusively told Us Weekly at the 2025 Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 14. “Our creators really leaned into, like, giving the people what they loved about it last season, and also stretching it into something new and exciting.”

Lupe stunned on Sunday for her first-ever Emmys in a silver, sheer Carolina Herrera gown, there to support her Nobody Wants This costars. Kristen Bell and Adam Brody are up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, respectively. The Netflix hit is also nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. (Bell, 45, lost early in the night to Hacks‘ Jean Smart.)

Nobody Wants This, created by Erin Foster and loosely inspired by her own interfaith marriage that inspired her to convert to Judaism, premiered in September 2024 about agnostic podcaster Joanne (Bell) as she fell in love with rabbi Noah (Brody). Lupe plays Joanne’s sister and podcast cohost, Morgan.

When asked where Joanne and Morgan are headed in the next batch of episodes, Lupe succinctly told Us, “You’ll have to see! I literally cannot say anything.”

Lupe and her Nobody Wants This castmates recently wrapped the second season of the romantic comedy, which premieres this fall.

“We finished [and] we’re coming out October 23rd,” Lupe told Us at the BAFTA TV Tea on Saturday, September 13. “There’s lots [that] I’m really excited [about]. I can’t really say that much more. I hope you guys like it.”

While Lupe couldn’t say much more about Nobody Wants This season 2, it’s likely that Joanne and Noah will continue exploring their romance.

2025 Emmys Winners List

“I don’t think it’s going to be easy, but I think that they are going to have a relationship,” costar Jackie Tohn, who plays Noah’s sister-in-law Esther, previously told Us in November 2024. “I think since season 1 is so dreamland, they’re probably going to get into more real relationship-y stuff.”

Tohn, 45, added at the time, “I mean, they did do it a little bit with getting the ‘ick’ and her just being like, ‘This can’t work. What are we doing?’ But maybe just more relationship-y things. I mean, we’ll see.”

The second season will also feature a special cameo from Leighton Meester, who is married to 45-year-old Brody in real life.

“Leighton is awesome. She’s so kind, she’s so fun, and she’s so funny, and them together on set, they’re just so sweet together,” Lupe told Us on Sunday. “They’re a really great couple, so we were so excited to have her. I’m so happy she did it.”

Meester, 39, clearly feels the same, telling Entertainment Tonight on the Emmys red carpet that she had “one of the most fun times [she’s] ever had on a set.”

Meester is expected to play a parenting influencer, who happens to be Joanne’s childhood nemesis.

Nobody Wants This season 2 premieres on Netflix Thursday, October 23.
