Stephen Curry Set to Star in an Upcoming NBC Mockumentary Comedy
Look alive sports fans, Stephen Curry is breaking into the comedy world with a new mockumentary series in development at NBC. According to Deadline, the basketball icon is set to star alongside Adam Pally in a forthcoming comedy titled "Mr. Throwback," which follows a "down-on-his-luck memorabilia dealer looking for redemption by reuniting with his sixth-grade teammate," who is none other than Curry, playing himself. Reps for NBC did not immediately respond to POPSUGAR's request for comment on the upcoming project, but in a press statement, per Deadline, Curry said, "Making the natural transition from behind the camera to center stage opposite Adam Pally, we can't wait for the world to see what we have in store." Pally also reacted to the news in an April 4 Instagram post, writing, "Looks like the splash bro's where triplets?!" News of the series arrives a few months after Curry premiered his "Underrated" documentary at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. The show comes from Universal Television and is in association with the basketball star's Unanimous Media - which is the first project following the company's 2021 global talent partnerships deal with NBCUniversal. "Mr. Throwback" was created by Pally along with writing duo Matthew Libman and Daniel Libman. "Happy Endings" creator David Caspe will write alongside executive producers Curry, Pally, and the Libmans. No other details about the series, including the rest of the cast and a release date, have been announced yet. Curry has had a handful of small TV roles as himself over the years - including voice parts in "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy," as well as a small gig in "Ballers" season three. He also created and starred in his 2019 Facebook Watch series "Stephen vs. The Game" to follow his journey in the NBA and all of his accomplishments.
