Victoria Beckham Recalls Using Spice Girls Budget on Her Own Clothes

Victoria Beckham will tell you what she really, really wants now and forever — some fabulous clothes.
In the new Netflix documentary appropriately titled Victoria Beckham, the fashion designer allowed cameras to document her life while preparing for Paris Fashion Week 2024.
Before she showcased her latest looks on the runway, Beckham, 51, looked back on her experience singing with the Spice Girls.
“Pretty early on, we were working with great stylists, amazing makeup artists, and I learned so much,” she said. “The other girls weren’t really into fashion. That left a really nice budget for me.”

When a producer asked Beckham what she did with the Spice Girls’ clothing budget, the singer — with the nickname of Posh Spice — said she took full advantage.
“I went to Gucci,” she revealed. “I had never ever owned a designer garment before, and so this was so new and so exciting.”
The Spice Girls shot to fame in the ’90s thanks to hits like “Spice Up Your Life,” “Say You’ll Be There” and “Wannabe.”
Beckham, Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Mel B (Scary Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice) and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) later went on an indefinite hiatus in 2000, before returning for a world tour that culminated in a performance at the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
The Spice Girls — minus Beckham — later embarked on a U.K. stadium tour in 2019.
“I love the Spice Girls. I really do,” Beckham told The Sunday Times in an interview published Saturday, October 4. “It’s been great reflecting on that time. “The other night, I had dinner with Emma and Geri, and Mel B messaged me at the weekend. I still speak to all of the girls. I’m so proud of everything we did. I wouldn’t have been who I am now if it wasn’t for the Spice Girls, 100 percent.”
On Wednesday, October 8, Halliwell, 53, Bunton, 49, and Chisholm, 51, supported Beckham at the premiere of her self-titled documentary in London. The last time all five members were together was at Beckham’s 50th birthday party in April 2024.
While Victoria Beckham aims to celebrate the fashion brand’s accomplishments, Beckham believes she’s just getting started.
In an interview with Women’s Wear Daily published Sunday, October 5, Beckham shared her hopes to roll out stores in the United States and launch new categories such as lingerie and sportswear.
“I say dream big — and dream even bigger,” she told the publication. “But even I couldn’t have dreamed that I would be where I am now. We’ve spent years securing the foundations, and I really feel that now I am just scratching the surface.”

As for why she wanted to do the documentary at this time in her life, Beckham explained that she is so much more than Posh Spice.
“I’ve been in fashion for nearly two decades and am still fighting the Spice Girl preconceptions,” she said. “I had said ‘no’ for quite a long time, but then I watched so many different fashion documentaries and realized the time was right.”
Victoria Beckham is streaming now on Netflix.
