Nicole Kidman Reveals the Real Reason Why She Won't 'Stop' Working

Nicole Kidman went on a reflective journey about why she continuously signs on to new projects.

“So much to say and so little time to say it. About death and life and joy and grief and loss and sex and why we’re here and what is truth and is truth even necessary,” the actress said in an interview with Vogue published on Wednesday, October 8. “Are we human? Are there parallel universes? What is the future? Do we even care? Are we living in a dream? What is reality? Where are we going? Why do I keep working?”

Kidman then answered her own question, “Why stop? You’ll have to tie me down, tie me up!”

In the past two years, Kidman has appeared in multiple films, including Holland, A Family Affair, Babygirl and in addition to lending her voice to a character in the animated movie, Spellbound. She’s also had roles in various TV series, like Nine Perfect Strangers, Lioness, Faraway Downs, Expats and The Perfect Couple. She also worked behind the scenes on various projects, including The Last Anniversary.

Kidman has not slowed down as she has multiple projects lined up for next year, too. The actress is starring in the long-awaited Practical Magic sequel alongside Sandra Bullock, as well as the Scarpetta TV series with Jamie Lee Curtis. Kidman also signed on to join the Apple TV series Margo’s Got Money Troubles.

“I love acting where it’s like, What is this? I love when I’m moving out of my own knowledge into a place of … almost like free-falling,” she told the outlet about her passion.

Even with such a full plate, Kidman teased that she’s “contemplating writing,” but doesn’t have anything set in stone.

“There’s a wealth of things I am compiling in my little psyche,” she reflected. “[It would be] maybe a necessity. So much to say and so little time to say it. About death and life and joy and grief and loss and sex and why we’re here and what is truth and is truth even necessary.”

Kidman added that she’s “always” open to “taking a risk.” If it doesn’t pan out, the Oscar winner subscribes to the philosophy of getting back up to “try again.” When dealing with the highs and lows of her life, Kidman has no issues channeling those feelings into her work.

“I put it in my work. That’s the beauty of what I do,” she said. “There’s a place for some of this to explode, implode, process [and] discover.”

Kidman recently suffered a heartbreak as she filed for divorce from husband Keith Urban after nearly 19 years of marriage. According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Kidman cited irreconcilable differences and requested to be the primary residential parent of their two daughters: Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.

After news broke of their shocking split, an insider exclusively told Us that Kidman and Urban were living “separate lives.”

“Nicole and Keith were not on the same page. … They are moving in two different directions, and their worlds are not overlapping as much as they once did,” the insider explained. “The distance between them had grown more obvious recently.”
