'Bridgerton' Fans Spot Editing Error in Season 4 Now-Viral Masquerade Scene
Bridgerton fans believe they spotted an editing error during season 4 of the Netflix series.
In the season premiere, which premiered on Thursday, January 29, Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) hosts a masquerade ball. At one point, Violet converses with Lady Araminta (Katie Leung) and her daughters, Rosamund Li (Michelle Mao) and Posy Li (Isabella Wei). During their chat, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Leung had a flesh colored band-aid on the upper part of her ear.
“Dearest gentle readers … it appears this might be Cho Chang after all … band-aids in this era?!?.” one fan captioned a TikTok clip documenting the scene and referring to Leung’s famous role in the Harry Potter movies.
Fans took to the comments section to debate the editing error.
Bridgerton's Controversial Mistress Twist Explained After Book Changes
“So I wasn’t crazy when I saw that?” one user wrote, while another replied, “How do y’all even pay attention to this stuff? I didn’t even notice!”
Another fan shared, “This is literally the problem with ultra hd tvs and cameras.”
Others pointed out the presence of a band-aid not being accurate to Bridgerton’s setting in the Regency Era.
“Band aid invented in 1920, meanwhile in 1800 ?,” one user joked while another person retorted, “Guys it’s Bridgerton. It’s not supposed to be historically accurate.”
Some fans theorized that the use of a bandage was to cover up an ear piercing for Leung.
Meet 'Bridgerton' Season 4 Cast — Including Stars of Benedict, Sophie's Story
“I wish they had covered it better – like put a fancy ear cuff up there or something,” one fan wrote.
Bridgerton season 4 follows the love story between Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie (Yerin Ha) who meet at the masquerade ball. The pair have a Cinderella-esque encounter as Sophie does not reveal her true identity to Benedict. Leung plays Sophie’s stepmother who makes her a maid for the household.
Later on in the series, Lady Araminta relieves Sophie of her housemaid duties and she gains employment with the Bridgerton family. Sophie forms a bond with Benedict’s sisters Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and Hyacinth (Florence Hunt).
While Benedict is in close proximity to Sophie, he is unaware that they met at the ball. Despite not knowing her true identity, Benedict develops feelings for her, but because she is a maid he can’t pursue her romantically. In the part one finale, Benedict proposes that Sophie become his mistress, leaving the series on a cliff hanger. Part 2 of the season will drop on Thursday February 26.
Biggest Differences Between 'Bridgerton' Season 4 and Julia Quinn's Book
Bridgerton author Julia Quinn exclusively spoke to Us Weekly about Benedict’s mistress proposal.
“That’s something I just said, ‘You need to make sure they understand this, because it’s going to seem really awful,’” she explained of Benedict’s offer to Sophie. “And so that’s why I’m always telling people, ‘Hey, the big deal is not that he does this, not that he asked her to be his mistress, because that’s what would happen.’”
Quinn continued, “The big deal is that he grows and overcomes it and changes his mind and then says, ‘You are more important than what anybody else says.’ And I think it’s just as romantic that he has to learn that than coming out at the get go. I like showing character growth. I don’t want my characters to be perfect at the beginning. I want them to be better towards the end.”
Part 2 of Bridgerton season 4 releases on Netflix Thursday, February 26. All of the Bridgerton audiobooks are available in Spotify Premium.
